CLIMATE NEWS
- We need a viable alternative to driving
-
"Polls show that the vast majority of Americans want to live in communities that are more walkable and livable, where every trip out the door does not require a trip in a car. But getting there has been politically difficult. Whether you care more about climate change, or just wish we'd fix our transportation system, the stars are aligning for a transportation shift, but only if the grassroots make it politically possible."

- LTE: Climate change defining challenge of a generation
-
"As a young voter in Washington state, I view climate change as the defining challenge of my generation. For that reason, I was glad to see the 2008 governor's race heat up over the critical issues of advancing real solutions to combat climate change."
PROMISING SOLUTIONS
The Western Climate Initiative is made up of seven Western states and two Western Canadian provinces working together to reduce our region’s output of global warming pollution. The WCI set overall reduction goals during the summer of 2007 and this July, they will release initial recommendations for a design of how to achieve those goals.
Climate Action Team
Governor Gregoire convened this stakeholder group which issued a set of initial recommendations in February and is continuing to meet to propose specific policies for adoption in 2009. The specific areas the team is looking at include transportation, waste reduction, and green buildings and energy efficiency.
